Third Sitting of the Local Self-Government Committee
At the sitting held on 20 February and chaired by the Committee Chairman Jovan Palalic, the Local Self-Government Committee considered the Information of the Ministry for NIP on the realisation of local self-government projects in 2008 and the Ministry’s 2009 plan.

National Assembly Speaker Signs Document on Strengthening Parliament’s Control Function
Today at the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic and the United Nations Development Programme Acting Resident Representative, Rini Reza, signed the project document “Strengthening the Control Function of the Serbian Parliament”, aiming to stimulate the strengthening of the National Assembly’s capacities and its responsibility towards the citizens of Serbia, as well as the Parliament’s supervising function.

Fifth Extraordinary Session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2009 Convened
At the request of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, convened the Fifth Extraordinary Session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2009, for Monday, 23 February 2009, starting at 1 p. m. As specified in the Request to hold the session, the agenda will contain the bills on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction; Protection against Ionizing Radiation and Nuclear Safety; Waste Management; Protection against Non-Ionizing Radiation; amending and modifying the Law on Environmental Protection; Chemicals; Biocides; Air Protection; Packaging and Packaging Waste; amending and modifying the Environmental Impact Assessment Law; Nature Protection and Protection and Sustainable Use of the Fish Fund.

British Parliamentarians Talk to Friendship Group and Foreign Affairs Committee Members
Today, at the National Assembly House, the delegation of the British Group at the Inter-Parliamentary Union, headed by Roger Berry, had separate meetings with the members of the Serbia-United Kingdom Friendship Group at the National Assembly and the Foreign Affairs Committee.

National Assembly Speaker Visits Algeria
A delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, headed by the Assembly Speaker, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, made an official visit to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, on 18 February 2009, at the invitation of Parliament Speaker Abdel Aziz Ziari. The Assembly Speaker also met Prime Minister Ouyahia, and laid wreaths on the Grave of the Unknown Soldier and the World War One Serbian Military Cemetery.

Serbian and British Inter-Parliamentary Union Delegations Meet
The members of the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia at the Inter-Parliamentary Union met today at the National Assembly House with the delegation of the British Parliament at the Inter-Parliamentary Union in a two-day visit to Serbia.
