Cooperation of the European Integration Committee with civil society organisations in the EU accession negotiation process

It is of utmost importance for the EU accession process to include all citizens and civil society organisations of the Republic of Serbia in the EU accession negotiation process. In addition to adopting laws and harmonising legislation with the EU acquis, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, and the European Integration Committee, established cooperation with the National Convention on the EU, which gathers over 700 civil society organisations.

Since its inception, the European Integration Committee has been intensively cooperating with the NGO sector as well as with international and other organisations such as the Council of Europe, the OSCE, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, GIZ, UNDP, USAID and others.

Through the work of the working groups of the National Convention on the EU, which thematically monitors the structure of negotiation chapters, and by adopting conclusions and recommendations seeking to address the shortcomings in the process of creating and implementing reform measures, civil society organisations become directly involved in the negotiation process. The consultative mechanism of the European Integration Committee and the National Convention on the EU contributes to the National Convention fully fulfilling its role in the form of an institutionalised open dialogue and an effective mechanism for monitoring the course of negotiations with the European Union.
