The IPS scholarships awarded to Serbian students were the reason behind the Bundestag delegation comprising MP Kai Gehring, Vice President of the Free University of Berlin Werner Väth and head of the Division for Official Trips and Trips connected with Members’ Mandates Gabriele Schmidt visiting the National Assembly.

Bundestag MP Kai Gehring reminded that the scholarships and this type of cooperation date back to 2004 and that the Bundestag has played host to 40 students from Serbia so far. This year, out of a great number of applicants, IPS selected five highly qualified and talented young people who would learn about the Bundestag’s work, added Gehring.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gordana Comic emphasised the importance of the state investing into knowledge and thanked the guests for Germany’s great support in reaching that goal. I always consider the exchange of knowledge and ideas good news, stressed Comic. Vice President of the Free University of Berlin Prof. Werner Väth briefed the assembly on the German universities' internationalization programmes and invited Serbian universities to bilateral cooperation aimed at university internationalization.

The officials agreed that there is great interest to deepen and expand the cooperation and friendship between Serbia and Germany which will continue to support Serbia on its road to European Union membership.
