The Head of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, MA Jadranka Jovanovic, took part in the 50th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, held in Paris, France, 8 - 13 July 2025.
The topic of the general debate was: The role of La Francophonie as an anchor of stability in a world in crisis.
At the opening of the 50th anniversary General Assembly of the PAF, the President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher, and the President of the National Assembly of France Yael Braun-Pivet, addressed the participants. They emphasised the importance of the existence of the PAF, in a changing world, as a traditional organisation that fosters the values of democracy and respect for human rights. They underlined the importance of the values promoted by the PAF, through cultural and linguistic exchange between members, but also increasingly as a political factor and organisation that, through multilateralism, contributes to resolving open issues in a changing world. They thanked the participants and emphasised France's readiness to cooperate with other PAF members through joint projects.
In the general debate, MA Jadranka Jovanovic stressed in her address that one of the basic principles of the foreign policy of the Republic of Serbia is the commitment to consistent respect for international law and the territorial integrity of sovereign states, and its main goal is full membership in the European Union. We are committed to implementing the necessary reforms and expect the remaining clusters within the Negotiation Process to open soon. She also emphasised that Serbia sincerely shares all the values of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie and strongly supports its commitment to peace, democracy and human rights. Serbia is also constantly improving cooperation with all the structures of La Francophonie, especially through active participation in the work of the committees and through other activities within the PAF. She called for Serbia's admission to full membership in La Francophonie as soon as possible. She drew particular attention to the exhibition "Serbia in La Francophonie", held during the previous 49th PAF General Assembly in Montreal, as well as its staging in Belgrade in October 2024 and in Nice in April 2025, by which Serbia demonstrated its active contribution and comprehensive commitment to the spread of the values cherished by the PAF.
During the 50th General Assembly of the PAF, the Head of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to APF presented the monograph "Serbia in the Francophonie" to the President of the Senate of the Republic of France, Gérard Larcher, and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie, Hilarion Etong.
MA Jadranka Jovanovic also participated in the meeting of the PAF Network of Women Parliamentarians and Committee on Political Affairs. In her address at the meeting of the PAF Network of Women Parliamentarians, MA Jadranka Jovanovic said that the National Assembly today is made up of 38% women parliamentarians. There is also a significant participation of women in the executive branch, that is, in the Government of the Republic of Serbia - there are currently nine women in ministerial positions in Serbia.
At the meeting of the PA of La Francophonie Committee on Political Affairs, MA Jadranka Jovanovic said that we see parliamentary cooperation within the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie as a valuable form of parliamentary diplomacy, which contributes to the exchange of experiences and finding sustainable solutions to open issues. The most important state project that is the task of the Government of the Republic of Serbia is EXPO 2027, which is being worked on at an accelerated pace. She invited the participants to come to Belgrade during this important event.
The 50th General Assembly of the PAF in Paris was attended by over 500 participants from 55 delegations of parliaments of the PA Francophonie members, associate members and observers, with the participation of representatives of the PA Francophonie Secretariat, experts and representatives of the academic community.
