The officials noted that parliamentary meetings like these contribute to the deepening of overall cooperation between Serbia and Germany, as well as create possibilities to change Serbia’s image. Bosko Ristic announced that the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Germany will soon be fully constituted at the National Assembly highlighting the deputies’ interest in the friendship group. This demonstrates the importance of the relations between Serbia and Germany and confirms that this type of cooperation strives to improve the bilateral relations between the two countries. Serbian parliamentarians are ready to cooperate with their German counterparts on all levels, said Ristic adding that the contacts both with the federal and provincial parliaments can help the deputies gain direct insight into European Union standards and principles.

In the meeting, it was stressed that Serbia is firmly in favour of European values and that EU membership is its goal evidenced by the fact that the highest percentage of Serbian citizens want Serbia’s integration into the European Union. In the meeting with the German deputies, it was said that Serbia’s readiness to accept European standards, striving to make Serbia the factor of peace and security in the region, a factor that will solve and not make problems, as well as a constructive diplomatic approach to the Kosovo issue demonstrate that Serbia is on a fast lane to the EU.
