Thirty-Second Sitting the Committee on Defense and Security

At the thirty-second sitting, held on 14 October, the Committee on Defense and Security considered the Report on the events of 10 October 2010.Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic and Director of the Security Information Agency Sasa Vukadinovic and associates took part in the sitting.



At the thirty-second sitting, held on 14 October, the Committee on Defense and Security considered the Report on the events of 10 October 2010.

Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic and Director of the Security Information Agency Sasa Vukadinovic and associates took part in the sitting. They informed the Committee members on the events of 10 October on the streets of Belgrade.

Following a debate, the Committee on Defense and Security adopted the following

CONCLUSIONS

On the riots on the streets of Belgrade on 10 October during and after the Pride Parade:

- The Committee believes that public peace and order have been seriously disturbed causing injuries to a large number of officials in the line of duty, injuries to citizens and considerable material damage;

- The Committee commends the professional attitude of the members of the MUP, BIA and all other services for the protection of security in the country;

- The Committee supports the Police to use all available legal authority in the case of possible future instances of violence, endangerment of human lives and property;

- The Committee requests that the competent state authorities, in line with their Constitutional and legal authority, implement decisive measures to protect the safety of the citizens, public peace and order, property and security of the Republic of Serbia by a consistent implementation of their legal authority;

- The Committee deems the security situation in Serbia stable, the recent riots in Belgrade and Genoa which had undoubtedly damaged the country’s international image notwithstanding.

In the debate, the Committee on Defense and Security adopted a special Conclusion to point out the need to focus more on equipping the members of MUP better and reviewing their material standing.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee Deputy Chairman, Dusan Bajatovic.
