At the second sitting, held on 15 October, the members of the Committee on Trade and Tourism were briefed on the Trade Development Strategy and Policy of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Trade and Services Plan of Activities with Work Plan from 15 July to 31 October 2008.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman Milan Djokic, and attended by the Minister of Trade and Services Slobodan Milosavljevic and associates.

Minister Milosavljevic presented the Strategy, Plan of Activities and Work Plan to the Committee members. He stressed that the work on the Trade Development Strategy and Policy of the Republic of Serbia began in 2002, only to be finished by the middle of the current year and forwarded for public discussion. The Government of the Republic of Serbia will discuss the Strategy in the following two to three weeks. The Strategy’s main postulates are the development of small and medium enterprises, strengthening competition on the market and spreading domestic trade over the Serbian borders. The Strategy is projected so that it covers the period until Serbia’s joining the EU. Talking about the Ministry of Trade and Services Plan of Activities, as part of its legislative activity the Minister pointed out work on the bills on protection of competition, on trade, on the protection of consumer rights, on commodity reserves and on public warehouses, which should be forwarded into Assembly procedure in the following year.
