Second Sitting of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality
At the sitting held on 13 September, the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality elected MP Zlata Djeric for its representative at the Commission for the Execution of the National Action Plan for the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 - Women, Peace and Security in the Republic of Serbia (2010 – 2015).
The Committee members also ruled on the selection of candidates for a member of the Commission for the Control of the Execution of Criminal Sanctions and elected Committee Chairman Meho Omerovic to the function, in view of the fact that he was a member of the Commission in the previous mandate as well.
The Committee Chairman went on to inform the Committee members on cooperation plans with international and non-governmental organisations. Regarding it, they mentioned the UNDP initiative to present a Study on gender equality in the sphere of disaster risk reduction, in cooperation with the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, to mark the International Disaster Risk Reduction Day in October, which the Committee endorsed in principle. The Committee Chairman also said that, in the upcoming period, the National Assembly would continue its successful cooperation with the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, inter alia via the Committee and announced the beginning of the realisation of the project signed in February 2012.
In the course of the sitting, MP Srdjan Sajn briefed the Committee members on the problems arisen in the organisation of the so-called “civilian watches” in the north of Vojvodina. Regarding it, the Committee concluded to request information on the event from the Ministry of Interior.
Within the activity plan for the upcoming period, the Committee Chairman proposed that, at one of the upcoming sittings, the Committee members decide on the specific areas of the broad field of human rights they would deal with, in view of the Committee members’ announced participations in national and international roundtables.
