On 20 May 2010 at the National Assembly House, a roundtable was held on the topic of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of Serbian Armed Forces Personnel, organised by the OSCE Mission to Serbia.

On the behalf of the Ministry of Defense, the participants were greeted by Igor Jovicic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Defense. He stressed that, at the moment, the Serbian Army was in an advanced stage of reform and professionalisation and reminded the participants that the National Assembly had adopted a National Security Strategy and Defense Strategy of the Republic of Serbia, as well as significant systemic laws that had enabled the further development and strengthening of the country’s defense system.

The participants were also addressed by Thomas Moore, Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Asja Ivanceva Deputy Head of the OSCE Human Rights Department.

The reason behind the roundtable was the publication of the Handbook on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of Armed Forces Personnel in Serbian. The Handbook was published by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and Geneva Center for Democratic Control of Armed Forces.

The gathering was also attended by OSCE representatives, Ministry of Defense, deputies, representatives of the governmental and non-governmental sector, as well as military attaches accredited in Serbia.
