With heartfelt gratitude for the hospitality and the opportunity to improve cooperation through what binds Serbia and Russia most strongly - faith, Bakonin presented Janjic with a consecrated icon of the martyrs, dedicated to a group of Russian lawyers, judges and attorneys who died for their faith and justice during the persecutions after the October Revolution and in the early period of Soviet rule. He emphasised that Russians and Serbs are connected not only by great friendship, but also by tradition, history and faith.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker thanked him for the magnificent gift and welcomed the guest to the National Assembly, emphasising that Russia can always find sincere friends there.

Janjic also recalled numerous historical moments in which the Serbian and Russian people showed deep friendship and mutual support, emphasising spiritual and cultural ties. The roots of this connection, Janjic pointed out, reach far back in time.

"When Serbia was in trouble, the first aid always came from Russia, but Serbia was also among the first to come to the aid of the brotherly Russian people when they found themselves in trouble," concluded Janjic.
