National Assembly Deputy Speaker Jovan Janjic Meets with the President of the International Fund for the Spiritual Unity of Orthodox Peoples based in Moscow
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Jovan Janjic met today, at the National Assembly, with the President of the International Fund for the Spiritual Unity of Peoples, based in Moscow, Valery Alexeyev.
Jovan Janjic emphasised that the International Fund for the Spiritual Unity of Peoples has written a substantial chronicle of spiritual life in the Orthodox world in its 31 years of existence. He also added that the Fund has shed light on many events in the world that concern not only the spiritual life of our peoples, but also everything that concerns modern man, our peoples, and our future.
The National Assembly Deputy Speaker emphasised that the Fund does not operate only along church lines, but also along state lines, in a formal manner and by accepting into its membership MPs from these countries.
"We are witnesses to how this kind of cooperation gives impetus to the overall cooperation of peoples and states, and we see this specifically in the exceptionally friendly, brotherly cooperation between Russia and Serbia," Janjic said.
The National Assembly Deputy Speaker expressed special gratitude for the organisation of the International Scientific Conference on World War II, stressing that this conference contributes to the closeness and mutual connection of our two peoples.
Alexeyev said that each visit of this kind represents a significant step towards further strengthening and improving the traditionally good relations between Serbia and Russia. He also added that it is very important for the voice of Orthodox peoples to be heard in modern Europe and the world. "I am convinced that through dialogue, academic cooperation and parliamentary initiatives we will continue to strengthen the bridges between our countries, contributing to peace, stability and the preservation of the spiritual values we share," Alekseev stressed.
The officials agreed that the topic of Slavic identity is of exceptional importance, both in the historical and cultural context, and in the contemporary social context, and that it is necessary to continue to deepen the scientific and professional dialogue on these issues through joint round tables, scientific conferences and other academic activities dedicated to the study of Slavic cultural, spiritual and historical heritage.
