In the course of the meeting, the officials expressed their satisfaction with the intensive contacts between the dignitaries of the two countries and the excellent bilateral relations, which are a guarantee for the preservation and continued improvement of the overall cooperation between Serbia and Hungary. They especially focused on cooperation in the field of economy. "Today, Hungary is our fifth biggest foreign trade partner, which is an improvement of eight positions compared to six or seven years ago. In the sphere of commodity exchange, we have been achieving record highs year after year and the progress in terms of investments is dramatic - in the previous twelve years, Hungary has been among the ten largest foreign investors in Serbia. We are looking forward to the continuation of cooperation and setting new historic results", said Dr Orlic.

The National Assembly Speaker and Minister Szijjarto applauded the announced of the formation of a strategic council between the two countries, as well as Serbia and Hungary’s cooperation in the field of infrastructure, stressing that the modernisation and reconstruction of the Belgrade-Budapest railway is a most important project, on that chimes in a new era of transportation in this part of Europe. They emphasised the importance of cooperation aimed at preventing illegal migration, as well as cooperation in the field of energy security, which they declared has a strategic character. "We share a common interest in this issue which is extremely important for our peoples in the current global circumstances. Once again, we would like to thank Hungary for its help as regards gas storage and the decision to do so this year as well, which is another proof of solidarity, support and our friendship", said the National Assembly Speaker.

Minister Szijjarto said that Serbia and Hungary were planning to double the electricity transmission capacity in order to facilitate and speed up its exchange. He said that, despite the energy crisis in Europe, the two countries have managed to provide and guarantee a stable supply of energy to their citizens, opining that this would not have been possible without strategic cooperation. He added that Serbia has proven to be a fair partner, worthy of trust, reaffirmed that Hungarian gas storage facilities are available to our country in the coming winter as well.

The National Assembly Speaker thanked Hungary for its understanding for Serbia’s interests and positions, as well as its support and clear position as regards the aspirations of so-called "Kosovo" for membership in European organisations. The Minister said that Serbia can always count on support in this matter, as well as in the matter of European integration. Dr Orlic informed Minister Szijjarto about the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, pointing out that official Belgrade, headed by President Vucic, remains on the side of peace, stability and dialogue and on the side of consistent respect for international law and UN resolutions. "The formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, safety of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija and respect for their basic human rights, remain issues of the greatest importance for Serbia and are in the focus of our state policy, pursued by the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vucic. It is a policy of peace and stability for all who live here, a policy for which President Vucic had received the mandate, convincing support and trust of the people, one implemented by both the National Assembly and the Government of Serbia”, said Dr Orlic.

Minister Szijjarto welcomed the efforts Belgrade is making to preserve dialogue and peace, expressing the expectation that the previously signed agreements would be honoured and finally be fully implemented.
