The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Romania Stanislava Janosevic met in the National Assembly House with the Romanian Ambassador to Serbia H.E. Silvia Davidoiu.
The meeting was also attended by PFG members Tatjana Nikolic, Anita Nesic and Aleksandar Markovic.
PFG Head Janosevic emphasised the importance of developing bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Romania, as well as the traditional friendship between the two peoples, which, she said, has been confirmed many times throughout history.
"We are particularly grateful for the principled support that Romania provides to Serbia on the issue of Kosovo-Metohija. We greatly appreciate Romania's consistent position regarding the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of so-called Kosovo. Sensitive negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina are underway, and we expect that, through dialogue and respect for international law, a compromise solution in mutual interest will be found," said Janosevic.
She also thanked Romania for the continued support it provides to Serbia on its path towards full membership in the European Union.
Ambassador Davidoiu thanked her hosts for the warm welcome, stressing that Romanian parliamentarians have always been very well received by their Serbian colleagues.
"It is very important that we intensify the dialogue between our countries, and I hope that the first step in that direction will be taken at the parliamentary level. We expect an exchange of visits in the very near future," said the Ambassador.
She emphasized that Romania provides full support to Serbia in the European integration process and expressed her willingness to share her experiences and knowledge from the European Union accession process.
The officials particularly emphasised the importance of cooperation in the field of education, with a focus on training teachers to teach in Serbian and Romanian in border areas.
They also pointed out the importance of activating the joint commission for minority issues, which exists at the level of the governments of the two countries, as a mechanism that would contribute to strengthening the rights and position of national minorities and to improving bilateral cooperation.
The officials agreed that strengthening and deepening parliamentary cooperation, primarily through friendship groups, is in the countries’ mutual interest. In that context, they discussed plans for an exchange of parliamentary visits.
They went on to talk about the importance of economic cooperation, assessing that there is great potential for further improvement of trade exchange. Janosevic pointed out that Serbia has significantly improved the investment climate, and invited Romanian investors to invest in Serbia.
"In this context, we would like to draw attention to the upcoming specialised exhibition EXPO 2027, which will be held in Belgrade. It is with great pleasure that we invite Romanian representatives to participate in this important international event," said Janosevic.
Special attention was paid to the possibilities for intensifying cultural cooperation and exchange, with the aim of better understanding and connecting the peoples of Serbia and Romania. The importance of improving scientific, technical and educational cooperation in mutual interest was also emphasised.
