29 April 2025 Members of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Goran Rakic and Ivan Karic and the head of the Turkish Delegation to the NATO PA Melvut Cavusoglu
Members of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Goran Rakic and Ivan Karic, are taking part in the joint meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Mediterranean and Middle East Special Group and Economics and Security Committee, held in Antalya, Republic of Turkey, 28 - 30 April 2025.
The meeting is focused on broader security and diplomatic implications of the conflict between Israel and Hamas; the future development of Syria; the role of Iran in the region; Chinese and Russian strategic engagement in the Middle East and Africa; instability in the Sahel region and the influence of private military actors; the consequences of the war in Ukraine for the Middle East and North Africa region; NATO's approach to the Middle East and the Southern Neighbourhood, as well as the Alliance's cooperation with partners in the fight against terrorism.
During the meeting, the participants were addressed, among others, by NATO PA Vice President Agnes Vadai (Hungary), Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Zeki Levent Gumrukcu, head of the Turkish Delegation to the NATO PA Melvut Cavusoglu, and James Bergeron of NATO's Allied Maritime Command in Northwood.
In addition to delegations from NATO PA members and associate members, the meeting was attended by parliamentarians from Algeria, Ghana, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
The members of the National Assembly delegation had a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the meeting, including with members of the delegations of Ghana, Georgia, Egypt, Turkey and Spain.
