Welcoming the Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Serbia, the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Qatar Dr Branislav Blazic applauded the announced establishment of a Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia in the Parliament of Qatar, opining that it would help maintain the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.

Blazic stressed that the Serbian Parliamentarians are dedicated to improving the cooperation between Serbia and Qatar in the fields of tourism, trade, defence and sports, emphasising that there is ample room to boost economic cooperation. He believes that Serbia has a lot to offer to foreign investors and hopes Qatar will recognise it.

H.E. Sheikh Mubarak Fahad J.M. Al-Thani thanked the PFG for the invitation to meet, stressing that he is personally urging for a prompt establishment of a Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia in the Parliament of Qatar. He informed his hosts that he had written to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar to expedite the process, because he believes it to be a very important step in the two countries’ relations.

The Ambassador also spoke of the final preparations for the signing of the agreement on economic, trade and technical cooperation between Serbia and Qatar, as well as the agreement on the stimulation of investments, adding that, in view of Serbia’s considerable agricultural experience, an agreement in that field would also be desirable.

For the purpose of bringing the two cultures closer together, H.E. Sheikh Mubarak Fahad J.M. Al-Thani announced the plans to organise a Qatar culture week next year in Belgrade.

Besides the PFG Head, Dr Branislav Blazic, the meeting with the Ambassador was also attended by PFG members Dr Vladimir Orlic, Katarina Rakic, Prof. Dr Branko Djurovic and Nebojsa Tatomir.
