The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with China, headed by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus, received a delegation from the Chinese city of Shenzhen, with whom they discussed the concretisation of cooperation that would further enhance the steely friendship and strategic partnership between the Republic of Serbia and the People's Republic of China.
Ragus underlined the importance of continued visits by the members of the parliamentary friendship group to Chinese companies in Serbia, in order to inform the wider public about these companies’ contribution to the Serbian economy, gross domestic product and the empowerment of local communities.
"China is beginning to mean life to us," Ragus recalled the statement made by the President of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vucic, after a bilateral meeting with the President of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Xi Jinping, on 9 May in Moscow.
The meeting of the two leaders marked the beginning of a new phase in the strategic partnership between China and Serbia. In addition to the exceptionally well-developed economic cooperation, where, for example, Serbia's exports to China alone have increased 200 times in the last 11 years, and mutual support for territorial integrity and sovereignty, the new phase in relations between the two countries will move in three directions:
First, a higher level of coordination between the leaderships of the two countries. Which means that the leaders of the two countries meet at least once a year;
Second - mutual support;
And the third direction in which cooperation should be strengthened is through mechanisms such as free trade agreements, which have yielded excellent results, Ragus recalled the conclusions from the meeting between the presidents of Serbia and China.
The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group were particularly grateful for China's international strong support for Serbia internationally and the honour that Serbia can reciprocate in kind, as a true friend.
The head of the Chinese delegation, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress in Shenzhen, Gao Shengyuan, thanked the hosts for the warm welcome and stressed the importance of promoting comprehensive cooperation. He referred to the development of Shenzhen, a city that has experienced exceptional economic prosperity in the last three decades, and expressed his readiness to further deepen cooperation with Serbia in the areas of technology, innovation and sustainable development. He particularly emphasised the importance of the exceptional relations between the presidents of the two countries, which represent a solid foundation for the further development of bilateral relations.
During the conversation, the participants highlighted the fraternal cooperation between Belgrade and Shenzhen, with particular emphasis on the importance of Chinese support to Belgrade in the areas of green policy and sustainable development.
The importance of the "Green Agenda" panel held in Belgrade was also emphasised, as the beginning of deeper cooperation in the field of green policy.
The participants of the meeting expressed the desire to actualise the steely friendship between the two peoples though concrete projects and results, including the exchange of knowledge and experience, support for the development of small and medium-sized Chinese enterprises in Serbia, and the upgrading of cooperation in the fields of medicine, education and economy, as well as tourism and culture.
