Markovic at Opening of Exhibition Commemorating World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims
Deputy Chairman of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Aleksandar Markovic spoke in the National Assembly at the opening of the exhibition commemorating World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, entitled "Breaking point - life before and after a road traffic accident", organised by the Road Traffic Safety Agency.
Markovic said that World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is an excellent opportunity to think deep about the consequences such tragic events leave on the lives of individuals, families and the society as a whole. He said that the best way to honour the memory of road traffic victims is to take concrete action, pointing out that traffic safety can be changed for the better only with sincere, continuous and publicly expressed political support and responsibility, as well as consistent application of regulations.
"Achieving the goal of reducing the number of road traffic accidents requires the general involvement of all institutions and citizens in the process of continuous improvement of the traffic safety system, through the application of the widest set of measures, by preventing unwanted behaviour in traffic that can have serious consequences on the life, health and property of traffic participants," emphasised Aleksandar Markovic. He expressed the expectation that the adopted amendments to the Law on Road Traffic Safety will yield results in the form of reduction of the number of victims in accidents.
Acting director of the Road Traffic Safety Agency Branko Stamatovic, Head of the Traffic Police Administration Slavisa Lakicevic, Belgrade City Secretary for Transport Nikola Tatovic and representative of the Association of Parents of Child Victims of Traffic Accidents Verica Vitorovic, also spoke at the opening of the exhibition.
