Foreign Affairs Committee Members Meet with French National Assembly Delegation

Foreign Affairs Committee Chairpereson Marina Ragus, Committee Deputy Chairman Dragan Markovic and Committee member Tanja Radjenovic, received a delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of France, headed by Frederic Petit, member of the France-Serbia Friendship Group.

The officials emphasised the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and exchanged opinions on Serbia's position in the current global and regional circumstances, as well as on Serbia and the Western Balkans’ prospects for European integration.

Marina Ragus stressed that Serbia, as an EU candidate country, is aware of the importance of the reforms it is implementing, primarily for the sake of its citizens, and that great efforts have been invested in economic development, both in traditional sectors of the economy and in the development of information technologies and artificial intelligence.

Ragus also informed her guests about the difficult position of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, emphasising that Belgrade advocates dialogue with Pristina and finding a compromise solution that will ensure stability. On the other hand, the Pristina side's intention is for Kosovo-Metohija to become ethnically pure, without Serbs, for which there is no adequate reaction from European countries, she noted.

She recalled that the Brussels Agreement was signed in 2013, mediated by the European Union, and that Serbia has fulfilled its obligations under that agreement, while the Community of Serb Municipalities, which should be the guarantor of the survival of Serbs in that territory, has not yet been formed.

Frederic Petit agreed that the Brussels Agreement is not being implemented sufficiently. He also stressed that the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU is equally important for this region and for the stability of the EU itself.
