The Head and members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba met today, at the National Assembly House, with the Cuban Ambassador to Serbia, H.E. Adela Mayra Ruiz Garcia.

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic said he was very pleased to be able to contribute to the already excellent cooperation between the two countries, through the parliamentary friendship group, to their decades’ long true friendship and bring them closer together.

The Ambassador confirmed that the relations between Serbia and Cuba are at a very high level, evidenced by the visits of Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic to Cuba when the two parliaments signed a Cooperation Agreement.

Ambassador Adela Mayra Ruiz Garcia said that Cuba had affirmed its principled stance on the self-proclaimed independence of Kosovo and as regards upholding international law.

She also thanked Serbia for voting against the US blockade of Cuba, at the same time stressing that the blockade persists and asking for Serbia’s parliamentary and governmental support in the fight against it.

Among other things, the members of the PFG with Cuba asked how the Cuban healthcare system functions, about the status of persons with disabilities in the country and unanimously thanked Cuba for its support of Serbia’s territorial integrity.

Ambassador Adela Mayra Ruiz Garcia said that what she had heard from the PFG members reflects common positions and confirms the unbreakable friendship and unity of Cuba and Serbia.

Stojmirovic said that today’s meeting is just the beginning of a successful cooperation and the PFG with Cuba will function and work as a family, regardless of political affiliation. He suggested that the Cuban Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia should come and visit the National Assembly, and that the meeting could be reinforced by delegations of businesspeople from Cuba and Serbia which could lead to more concrete results in the strengthening of economic cooperation.

Stojmirovic also invited the Ambassador to visit institute “Mihajlo Pupin”, one of the most important scientific institutions in Serbia, with the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba.

The meeting was attended by the following PFG members: Bozidar Delic, Miroslava Stankovic Djurisic, Tijana Davidovic, Olivera Ognjanovic, Natasa Jovanovic, Ljupka Mihajlovska, Ljubica Mrdakovic Todorovic, Mirko Krlic, Ana Ciric, Djordje Komlenski, Bojan Torbica, Josip Broz and Snezana Paunovic.
