At the sitting held on 13 May, the members of the Committee on Trade and Tourism considered in principle the Bill on General Product Safety and the Bill on Electronic Commerce, submitted by the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

The Minister of Trade and Services, Slobodan Milosavljevic presented the Bills to the Committee members. Presenting the Bill on General Product Safety, he stated that it regulates a matter in which Serbia had, in the last decades, lagged behind other European countries. The goal of the Bill is to protect the health of the consumers i.e. prevent the sale of products composed of substances that may be hazardous to the consumers’ health and life.

The Bill on Electronic Commerce aims to ensure legal security of traders in goods and services via the internet. The Bill is very liberal, fully harmonized with European standards, and information technologies in Serbia have reached the level of development which necessitates such a Bill.

Following a short discussion, the Committee members accepted both Bills in principle by a majority of votes with the reserved opinion of deputy Lidija Dimitrijevic.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Milan Djokic.
