Delegation of German Federal State of Baden-Württemberg and MPs Discuss Sustainable Development and Energy Efficiency

The Chairperson and the members of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy and the members of the Serbian Parliamentary Energy Policy Forum met today at the National Assembly with a delegation of the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy of the German Federal State of Baden-Württemberg to discuss the ongoing environmental and energy efficiency cooperation launched in 2015.

The Chairperson of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy Snezana B. Petrovic said that the German Federal State’s experiences and best practice examples of biomass use for energy purposes and the importance of green energy for sustainable development in general, have been invaluable for Serbia. She said that forestation, the construction of the first green building in Serbia, waste management and energy power plant risk control and sustainability are also topics of great importance.

State Secretary for the Environment, Climate and Energy of the German Federal State of Baden-Württemberg Dr Andre Baumann agreed with the officials that cooperation on environmental protection and bioenergy is very important. The use of biomass could boost the efficiency of water purification facilities, said Baumann adding that it can be also used in agriculture and forestry and it can greatly assist energy transition and sustainable energy policy. He said that it is best to use the energy which cannot be used up and which is all around us, adding that that is a huge challenge and task for all of us.

The meeting was attended by MPs Ivana Stojiljkovic, Marijan Risticevic, Goran Ciric, MA Goran Cabradi, Snezana R. Petrovic, Sezana Paunovic, Natasa Mihajlovic Vacic and representatives of the German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ). They spoke about future projects conducted with the help of GIZ and the need to encourage the use of forest potentials and agricultural land in Serbia. They also underlined how important it is to encourage local self-governments to follow the German example and achieve independent energy use.

Bioenergy, sustainable development and energy production are topic of extreme importance, Snezana B. Petrovic concluded stressing that Germany has the institutional framework and good results in the field which makes its support both very important and useful for Serbia.
