Becic Meets with General Staff Training Programme Attendees

Security Services Control Committee Chairman MA Igor Becic received today the attendees of the General Staff Training Programme, as part of their visit to the National Assembly.

MA Igor Becic briefed the guests in detail on the Committee's competences and work methods, stressing that supervision of the security services is one of the pillars of every democratic society. The constitutional and legal framework of the Republic of Serbia prescribes civilian control and supervision of the security services, said Becic adding that the National Assembly viz. its Security Services Control Committee plays a key role in it.

Becic saied that the Committee considers the security services’ regular activity reports and supervises the proper use of budgetary and other funds for their work. In addition, the Committee conducts supervisory visits to the security services’ headquarters and regional centres, which is an essential application of the National Assembly’s control and supervisory function in practice, said MA Igor Becic.

Milos Maric, Committee Secretary, presented the role and competences of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee to the attendees of the General Staff Training Programme, with a special focus on the importance of reviewing the quarterly activity reports of the competent ministries of defence and the interior, as well as organising public hearings, from the aspect of the Committee's control function.

This visit was carried out as part of the General Staff Training Programme’s subject "Strategy", with the aim of assessing the possibilities and methods for cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces units and state authorities at the operational and strategic level.
