The session of the Constitutional Issues Committee, chaired by the Committee’s chairman, Predrag Markovic, saw the discussion and adoption of the Decision on the Creation of a Sub-committee charged with drafting the proposal for the adoption of a new Constitution of the Republic of Serbia and the proposal of the new Constitution of the Republic of Serbia.

The Sub-committee is to be composed of the chairman of the Committee, who also chairs the Sub-committee, and one member of the Constitutional Issues Committee from each Deputies’ Group at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

Each member of the Sub-committee is to designate an expert on constitutional issues to sit on the Sub-committee without the right to vote.

The proposal of Professor Dragor Hiber, to the effect that each Deputies’ Group should nominate one deputy member of the Sub-committee, was accepted unanimously. The Committee agreed that all Deputies’ Groups should nominate their representatives on the Sub-committee within eight days, i.e. by Friday 16 April.

The Committee’s chairman, Predrag Markovic, proposed that the Sub-committee should be able to use the services of experts from the field of constitutional law if necessary, as well as that all suggestions and proposals of professional and interested bodies should be submitted for discussion to members of the Sub-committee. These proposals were accepted.

The Committee has so far received proposals and suggestions relating to the creation of the new Constitution of the Republic of Serbia from several bodies and organisations, including the request of the Serbian Judges’ Society, the suggestions of the Council of Scientists, the conclusions of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, the proposal of the New Democratic Party of All the World’s Roma, the proposal of the Serbian Language Standardisation Committee.

The session of the Constitutional Issues Committee was not attended by its members from the Serbian Radical Party Deputies’ Group.
