At the Committee’s second session, held on 21 April, members of the Poverty Reduction Committee discussed the Committee’s forthcoming activities.

The Committee discussed the possibility of establishing co-operation with international organisations and domestic government and non-government organisations, as well as the necessity of becoming acquainted with experiences of countries in the region on reducing poverty.

The Committee agreed to hold a joint session with the Gender Equality Committee in order to form a Children’s Rights Commission, as children are considered by members of the Committee to be especially at risk from poverty. It was concluded that it would be useful to ask for other Committees’ co-operation in resolving issues relating to poverty reduction.

The Committee stressed the necessity of passing good social legislation to protect the poor, and underlined that it would monitor provisions of future legislation related to its area of competence.
