24th Sitting of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee

At the sitting held on 17 January 2018, the members of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee reviewed the current situation in the field of water management.


Natasa Milic, acting head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Water Directorate, emphasized the importance of the 2016 Water Management Strategy and the Svrackovo and Stubo-Rovni dam construction project. Milic said that 14 irrigation system construction projects financed from the Abu Dhabi fund have been launched, 11 of them in Vojvodina and three in Central Serbia, adding that new projects are being prepared within the same fund to further improve agricultural production in the country. Speaking of the EU accession process (Chapter 27) Milic said that preparations of the plans for the implementation of the four directives the negotiation position is based on are currently underway. Milic added that the Ministry is also working on boosting the number of households connected to the domestic water supply system, as well as the number of icebreakers so as to preclude any future natural disasters.

Zvonimir Kocic of the Public Water Management Company “Vode Vojvodine” said that when it comes to protection from water damage settled areas as well as any vulnerable areas are a priority, while Dusanka Stanojevic of the Ministry of Environmental Protection said that closer cooperation would ensure better protection and improve water management in Serbia.

The Committee concluded that it would improve its activities related to water management in Serbia.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Miroslav Aleksic, Marjana Maras, Vladimir Djuric, Mladen Lukic, Zarko Bogatinovic, Nada Lazic, Veroljub Matic, Radovan Jancic, Milorad Mircic, Prof. Dr Miladin Sevarlic, Milija Miletic, Ognjen Pantovic, Tijana Davidovac, Arpad Fremond and Jasmina Obradovic.
