Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending Committee Chairman Meets with OSCE Mission to Serbia Representatives

The Chairman of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending, Veroljub Arsic, met today at the National Assembly with the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Democratisation Department, Augusta Featherstone, and associates, to discuss the continued cooperation and the work plans for this year.

Arsic said that the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending has been trying to inform the public about the spending of budget funds for more than a decade, through the exercise of its control role and by using various "tools" available to the Committee.

He spoke of the importance of some of the Committee’s previous joint projects with international organisations, such as the Public Spending Supervision Portal and the Parliamentary Budget Office, via which MPs, as well as the interested public, can oversee the spending of budget funds.

The officials assessed that holding Committee sessions outside the National Assembly, where sectoral reports of the State Audit Institution are discussed, is a good practice, which should be continued in the future. These sessions establish direct communication with local self-governments and the Committee has the opportunity to be informed about their capacities for implementing laws or the need to amend certain legal solutions.

Veroljub Arsic said that the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending plans to have joint sessions with the relevant committees, regarding reports on performance audits, in order to familiarise themselves with the analysis of the effects of spending public funds and the efficiency of state subsidies.

During the meeting, both sides expressed interest and willingness to continue the successful cooperation this year as well.
