21st Sitting of the Health and Family Committee
At the sitting held on 3 April, the members of the Health and Family Committee were informed on the legislative and other activities relating to the protection of citizens against infectious diseases.
The sitting was attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Health Prof. Dr Berislav Vekic and representatives Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut Public Health Institute, Serbian Medical Chamber, Republic Expert Commission for the Protection of Citizens against Infectious Diseases, Torlak Institute for Virology, Vaccines and Sera, Medicines and Medical Devices Agency of Serbia, Serbian Association of Paediatricians, Immunisation League, Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic “Narodni Front”, Alliance of Patients’ Associations of Serbia and Association “Roditelj” (Parent).
Addressing the Committee members, State Secretary at the Ministry of Health Prof. Dr Berislav Vekic emphasised the importance of the experts’ and MPs’ endorsement of immunisation, considering the dwindling numbers of citizens responding to the appeals for the vaccination of children. Vekic said that the Law on Patients’ Rights and the Law on Protection of Citizens against Infectious Diseases are in collision and they should be harmonised so as to eliminate all uncertainties as regards vaccination. Vekic was pleased that the MPs are unanimous in the support of immunisation.
The Director of Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut Public Health Institute Dr Dragan Ilic said that the Institute had stepped up its activities relating to the promotion of vaccination in which it has the full support of the Serbian MPs and media who helped spread information based on scientific facts and results.
In the course of the debate, the Committee members stressed that all the MPs endorse immunisation and harmonisation of the laws in the field, and believe it very important to keep the public duly and adequately informed on the matter.
