17th Sitting of the Environmental Protection Committee

At the 17th sitting, held on 1 October 2015, the members of the Environmental Protection Committee discussed, in principle, the Bill on National Parks, Bill on the Confirmation of the Protocol on Prevention of Water Pollution caused by Navigation to the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin and the Bill on the Confirmation of the Agreement between the Government of Hungary at the Government of the Republic of Serbia on Timely Exchange of Information relating to Radiological Emergencies, submitted by the Government.


Besides the Committee members, the sitting was attended by acting assistant minister of agriculture and environmental protection Mladen Mladenovic and other Ministry representatives who took part in the discussion.

The Bill on National Parks mainly focuses on the national park borders and protection regime, assessment of value and acreage, management and sustainable use plan and supervision of the five national parks in the Republic of Serbia. The discussion also touched on the idea of passing a separate law for each of the national parks – Fruska Gora, Tara, Djerdap, Sar-planina and Kopaonik.

Following a long debate, the Bill on National Parks was accepted by majority vote.

The Bill on the Confirmation of the Protocol on Prevention of Water Pollution caused by Navigation to the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin and the Bill on the Confirmation of the Agreement between the Government of Hungary at the Government of the Republic of Serbia on Timely Exchange of Information relating to Radiological Emergencies were unanimously accepted by the Committee.

Representatives of the non-governmental sector also took part in the debate via the Green Chair mechanism.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Dr Branislav Blazic.
