Sixth Sitting of the Culture and Information Committee

At the sitting held on 16 December 2020, the members of the Culture and Information Committee considered, in detail, the Bill amending the Law on Temporary Regulation of Payment of Fees for the Public Media Service, submitted by the Government.

The MPs had submitted two amendments to the Bill which the Government and the Committee did not accept.

The Committee went on to consider the Bill amending the Law on Public Service Media, submitted by the Government, in principle. Assistant Minister of Culture and Information Slavica Trifunovic said that the amendment concerns additional financing of public service media from the national budget. The 255 RSD monthly fee is not enough to ensure the smooth operation of the two public services, RTS and RTV.

Following a discussion the Committee members unanimously accepted the Bill in principle.

As item three on the agenda, the Committee members considered the Bill on the Confirmation of the Agreement on Cinematographic Co-production between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of France, submitted by the Government. The Bill was presented by Assistant Minister of Culture and Information Olga Gekic who said that the signing of the Agreement sets the legal groundwork for the advancement of relations and cooperation in the area of audio-visual art since it would be putting the 1975 Yugoslavia-France agreement out of force which contains outdated provisions in both legally and in terms of technology.

Following a discussion the Committee members accepted the Bill and designated the Committee Chairperson as its rapporteur at the National Assembly sitting.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Deputy Chairperson Snezana Paunovic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Zeljko Tomic, Aleksandar Cotric, Aleksandar Jovanovic, Vuk Mircetic, MA Jadranka Jovanovic, Milica Dacic, Natasa Mihailovic-Vacic, Prof. Dr Marko Atlagic, Lav-Grigorije Pajkic and Ivana Popovic.
