Sixth Sitting of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region

At the sitting held on 19 April, the members of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region discussed the organization of the exhibition “Jasenovac – the Right to Remembrance”, 28 April – 10 May 2017, in the Central Hall of the National Assembly House. The exhibition is to be co-organized by the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region and the Committee on the Rights of the Child.


Committee Chairman MA Ivan Kostic emphasized the importance of the exhibition which is to present the history of suffering of the Serbian, Jewish and Roma people in WW2 concentration camps. Kostic said it was extremely important to discuss the issue of Jasenovac within the institutions and inform the public, both in the country and abroad, of it, which is the objective of the exhibition.

Ljiljana Niksic, Head of the Department of Migration Policy and Diaspora at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, informed the attending that the initiative to organize the exhibition was launched by the Serbian and Jewish academic community and that revealing the truth about Jasenovac is a historic mission for everyone. Niksic stressed that it is Serbia’s duty to protect the culture of the Serbian people’s sufferings and that the crimes committed in Jasenovac are a historic fact.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman MA Ivan Kostic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Blaza Knezevic, MA Jadranka Jovanovic, Miodrag Linta, Aleksandar Cotric, Prim. Dr Vlado Babic, Dr Ljubinko Rakonjac, Vladimir Djuric and Dejan Veljkovic.
