Head of PFG with Southeast Asia Meets with Indonesian Ambassador
The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Southeast Asia, Miroslav Petrasinovic, met in the National Assembly with the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, Andreano Erwin, with whom he discussed possibilities for improving bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries.
Miroslav Petrasinovic emphasised that Serbia is proud of its traditional friendship with Indonesia, which dates back to the period of the Non-Aligned Movement, recalling that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries.
He also emphasised that Serbia is grateful for Indonesia's principled stance on the issue of the self-proclaimed independence of so-called Kosovo, as well as for supporting Serbia's interests and opposing so-called Kosovo’s requests for membership in international institutions, such as UNESCO and INTERPOL.
Petrasinovic also pointed out that the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija live extremely difficult lives, under constant pressure and intimidation, and that 92 ethnically motivated attacks have been recorded since the beginning of this year.
Ambassador Andreano Erwin emphasized that Indonesia supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, as well as advocates for resolving open issues through dialogue.
In the course of the meeting, the officials discussed opportunities for improving bilateral relations between the two countries, agreeing that there is significant potential for further development of economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in the areas of trade, tourism, military industry, investment, ICT, agriculture, education and culture.
The officials agreed that interparliamentary relations could be further improved through an exchange of visits by parliamentary delegations, holding thematic meetings, as well as through mutual support at the multilateral level, within international parliamentary organisations.
Miroslav Petrasinovic said that over the past 12 years, Serbia has focused on preserving security and ensuring economic growth, highlighting high expectations for the EXPO exhibition, which will be held from 15 May to 15 August 2027, and inviting Indonesia to take part in the exhibition, to which 117 countries have already confirmed their participation.
Petrasinovic also reminded his guest that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia has applied for membership in the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), and requested Indonesia's support. Ambassador Erwin stressed that Serbia can count on their support.
