Sixth Meeting of the Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process - Information

The Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process held its fifth meeting in the National Assembly on 22 October 2024, starting at 1.30 pm.


The meeting was chaired by Nemanja Nenadic, Chairman of the Working Group, and attended by Working Group members Ugljesa Mrdic, Ana Jakovljevic, Jelena Jerinic, Filip Tatalovic, Ana Krstic, Luka Pusic, Zagorka Aleksic, Pavle Dimitrijevic and Bojan Klacar, as well as substitute members Kristina Antic and Aleksandar Stevanovic.

The meeting was also attended by National Assembly Deputy Secretary General Vladimir Dimitrijevic.

The Chairman of the Working Group proposed the following agenda for this meeting:

-Adoption of the minutes of the Fourth and Fifth Meeting of the Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process,

1.Consideration of ODIHR recommendations that could be realised through amendments and modifications to the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code and the proposals submitted by members of the Working Group for the amendment and modification of the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code.
2.Voting on proposals for the amendment and modification of the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code.
3.Formulation of the Working Group’s plan of future activity.
4.Miscellaneous.

After examining the submitted agenda, the Chairman concluded the Sixth Meeting of the Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process, as the submitted agenda was not adopted because the required number of members of the Working Group, stipulated in the Decision on its formation, did not vote for it.

After the meeting was concluded, the attendees expressed their views on the Working Group dynamics in the upcoming period in an informal interview, indicating those segments of the selection process in which, in their opinion, it is necessary to intervene as a priority through changes to current regulations. In that sense, it was also mentioned that the Working Group needs to achieve better cooperation and coordination with the state bodies in whose scope of work the regulations that need to be changed are. It was concluded that the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues should be informed that the Working Group was not, despite repeated requests, delivered the necessary data from the Ministry of the Interior.
