Seventh Sitting of the Health and Family Committee

At the sitting held on 27 November, the Health and Family Committee discussed the Bill amending and modifying the Health Care Law and the Bill amending and modifying the Health Insurance Law, in principle.

The proposed legislation was explained to the Committee members by the Minister of Health, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic. She stressed that the bills aim to ensure the rights stemming from compulsory health insurance and remove the detrimental consequences on the organisation of compulsory health insurance. The bills will ensure the financial sustainability of the health care system i.e. a health care system based on the rational use of public funds, said the Minister of Health. Some of the other issues to be regulated by the bills are the conduction of centralized public procurements, creation of medicine lists and resolving staff issues in health care institutions.
In the course of the sitting, the Committee members voiced arguments for and against the bills and pointed out the flaws in the functioning of the health care system as a whole.
Following a long discussion, the Committee members adopted the Bill amending and modifying the Health Care Law and the Bill amending and modifying the Health Insurance Law, in principle.
In addition to the Committee members, the Committee sitting was attended by representatives of the Republic Health Insurance Fund, Serbian Medical Chamber, Serbian Health Council, as well as the representatives of organisation Law Scanner.

The sitting was chaired by Prof. Dr Dusan Milisavljevic, Committee Chairman.
