Second Special Sitting of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, convened the Second Special Sitting of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2008, for Monday 7 July, starting at 10 a.



The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, convened the Second Special Sitting of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2008, for Monday 7 July, starting at 10 a.m., with the following agenda:

1. Election of the Government

At the beginning of the sitting, Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic informed the deputies that under article 127 of the Serbian Constitution, the President of the Republic of Serbia Boris Tadic, having heard the opinion of the representatives elected from the electoral lists, proposed Dr Mirko Cvetkovic, erstwhile Minister of Finance at the Serbian Government, as candidate for Prime Minister to the National Assembly.

Mirko Cvetkovic, candidate for Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, presented the future Government’s programme and proposed its composition.

Cvetkovic proposed Ivica Dacic as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Bozidar Djelic as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technological Development, Mladjan Dinkic as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development and Dr Jovan Krkobabic as Deputy Prime Minister.

As Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mirko Cvetkovic proposed Vuk Jeremic, Dragan Sutanovac as Minister of Defence, Diana Dragutinovic as Minister of Finance, Snezana Malovic as Minister of Justice, Sasa Dragin as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Petar Skundric as Minister of Energy and Mining, Milutin Mrkonjic as Minister of Infrastructure, Milan Markovic as Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Slobodan Milosavljevic as Minister of Trade and Services, Zarko Obradovic as Minister of Education, Snezana Samardzic-Markovic as Minister of Youth and Sports, Tomica Milosavljevic as Minister of Health, Jasna Matic as Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society, Rasim Ljajic as Minister of Labour and Social Policy, Oliver Dulic as Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Nebojsa Bradic as Minister of Culture, Verica Kalanovic as Minister for National Investment Plan, Goran Bogdanovic as Minister for Kosovo-Metohija, Bogoljub Sijakovic as Minister of Religion, Srdjan Sreckovic as Minister for Diaspora, Svetozar Ciplic as Minister of Human and Minority Rights and Sulejman Ugljanin as Minister without Portfolio.

The National Assembly went on to conduct a discussion on the programme of the candidate for Prime Minister and the composition of the Government.

Immediately after the completion of the discussion, the Speaker of the National Assembly set 7 July as Voting Day on the proposals for Prime Minister and members of the Government, starting at 10,20 p.m.

By a majority of 127 votes in favour, the National Assembly elected the Government of the Republic of Serbia in the proposed composition.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic congratulated the Prime Minister and members of the Government on being elected.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic went on to inform the National Assembly that deputies Ivica Dacic, Goran Bogdanovic, Dr Oliver Dulic, Dr Jovan Krkobabic, Milutin Mrkonjic and Dr Zarko Obradovic have tendered their resignations as members of parliament due to the constitutional incompatibility of the functions of member of government and member of parliament.

After the election, the Prime Minister, First Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers and Ministers took the oath of office by reading the text established by law and signed the text of the oath.

Since the National Assembly had conducted the discussion on the only item on the agenda and decided upon it, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic concluded the Second Special Sitting of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
