Second Sitting of the Subcommittee for Monitoring the Agricultural Situation in Marginal - Least Developed Areas of the Republic of Serbia - Areas with Difficult Working Conditions in Agriculture

At its second sitting, held on 29 July 2021, the members of Subcommittee for Monitoring the Agricultural Situation in Marginal - Least Developed Areas of the Republic of Serbia - Areas with Difficult Working Conditions in Agriculture, discussed the current state of agriculture in the least developed areas.

Subcommittee Chairman Milija Miletic stressed that the coronavirus pandemic had proved that countries should focus on rural areas and agriculture because it is the source of life.

It is especially essential to set aside more funds for underdeveloped areas, with difficult working conditions in agriculture, Miletic pointed out. He added that it is also very important to invest in mechanisation.

Miletic said that farmers in smaller areas experience a lot of problems during the technical inspections of tractors, since it is not possible to perform technical inspection in smaller areas and the vehicle needs to be taken to larger settlements, which is a significant expense.

In the ensuing discussion, the Subcommittee members exchanged opinions on the current situation in agriculture in the least developed areas.

The sitting was attended by representatives of the Coalition for Charity and Food Banks Federation, with whom Subcommittee members discussed the need to make it possible for companies to abolish VAT on food donations to underdeveloped municipalities and the population, which is about to expire.

The sitting was chaired by Subcommittee Chairman Milija Miletic, and attended by the following Subcommittee members and deputy members: Olja Petrovic Haji Milorad Stosic and Goran Spasojevic, as well as MPs Bratimir Vasiljevic and Prof. Dr Jahja Fehratovic.
