Second Sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee

At the sitting held on 9 October, the Foreign Affairs Committee adopted the Report on International Cooperation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2007. The sitting was chaired by Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic, the Committee Chairman. The National Assembly’s parliamentary cooperation for the rest of 2008 was also discussed at the sitting, and several visitation initiatives were adopted.



At the sitting held on 9 October, the Foreign Affairs Committee adopted the Report on International Cooperation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2007. The sitting was chaired by Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic, the Committee Chairman.

The National Assembly’s parliamentary cooperation for the rest of 2008 was also discussed at the sitting, and several visitation initiatives were adopted. First, a National Assembly Delegation headed by the Assembly Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, will participate in the 119 session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, from 13 to 15 October, then the members of the Assembly’s Permanent Delegation will participate in the OESCE PA seminar on human trafficking, to be held in Sarajevo from 19 to 21 October.

The Committee accepted the invitation for Serbia’s permanent delegations to participate in the PABSEC autumn session in Kishinev, from 3 to 5 November, and the NATO PA annual session in Valencia, from 14 to 18 November. Initiatives for the Foreign Affairs Committee delegations to visit the Kingdom of Belgium and the French National Assembly’s France-Serbia Friendship Group to visit Serbia, by the end of the year, were accepted, as well as exchange visits with the Slovak Parliament. It was also decided to extend an invitation to the Japanese parliamentarians to visit Serbia in 2009.

In the continuation of the sitting, several reports were adopted on realised visits and contacts of Serbian parliamentarians with the parliamentarians and diplomatic representatives of other countries this year.

The Committee members discussed and adopted the Proposal for the formation of deputy friendship groups with 43 countries and five regions, whose procedure of constitution began in the previous convocation of the National Assembly. It was also agreed that every deputy group nominate three to five of its deputies for the friendship groups, according to their affinities, and that the groups should have no more than 25 members.

At the sitting, the Committee members requested from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to regularly inform them on its current activities, as well as to forward analyses of international events to them.
