Second Public Hearing on Amendments to Law on Unified Electoral Roll Held in Kragujevac
The Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues held the second public hearing on the topic: "Presentation of the Draft Law amending and modifying the Law on the Unified Electoral Roll, prepared by the Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process " in Kragujevac today.
The public hearing was attended by MPs, both from the ruling majority and the opposition, representatives of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, representatives of Kragujevac Police Department, as well as members of the OSCE Mission and the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Serbia.
Committee Chairperson Milica Nikolic thanked the attending who participated in the public hearing, thus contributing to the successful debate on the topic at hand.
She said that the Chairman of the Working had submitted to the Committee an act with two proposals for amendments to the Law on the Unified Electoral Roll, which received the largest number of votes at the Working Group session, but which did not receive the majority needed for adoption. MP Ugljesa Mrdic has meanwhile submitted to the Committee an improved text of his proposal, which was the subject of consideration at the public hearing.
The Committee Chairperson emphasised that holding the public hearing in Kragujevac represents a continuation of the efforts of the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues to contribute to the transparency and inclusiveness of the legislative improvement process within the electoral process.
Public hearings on the draft law amending and modifying the Law on the Unified Electoral Roll will continue in the coming period in different cities in Serbia.
