Participatory gender audit workshop "Changing policy, institutional transformation: Toward a gender-sensitive parliament", was held in the National Assembly, in cooperation with the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
The objective of the workshop is to provide support to national parliaments in conducting gender audits with the aim of identifying good practices, as well as challenges related to advancing gender equality, especially in terms of the balanced representation of women and men, consideration of gender equality in the drafting of laws and parliamentary oversight.
"I am pleased that we have the opportunity to discuss how to improve gender equality in the parliament and how to pay more attention to this issue when performing tasks within our scope of work. When it comes to gender equality in the National Assembly, both among the MPs and employees, I believe that we have laid good foundations. Today, we have a much larger number of women parliamentarians and the participation of women in the work of parliamentary support service has always been there, as is the case with the state as a whole. I think now is the moment to take a step further, to talk about how this otherwise favourable situation in terms of women's participation can lead to further progress in terms of gender equality," said the Chairman of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, Aleksandar Markovic in his opening address.
The Minister without portfolio in charge of gender equality, prevention of violence against women and economic and political empowerment of women Tatjana Macura, Head of the OSCE Mission in Serbia Jan Braathu, ODIHR Chief of the Democratic Governance and Gender Unit Yulia Netesova, as well as the MPs and employees of the National Assembly Support Service and representatives of the non-governmental sector took part in the workshop.
