PFG with Russia Meets with Russian Standing Delegation to PABSEC

The National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Russia, headed by Igor Braunovic, met today with the Russian Parliament’s standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), currently in official visit to the Republic of Serbia.

At the very beginning of the meeting, Igor Braunovic said that the bilateral relations between the two countries are well developed across the board, thanks to intensive dialogues conducted both in mutual meetings and in meetings on the sidelines of international institutions. He took the opportunity to inform the members of the State Duma and the Federation Council about the situation in Kosovo-Metohija and to thank Russia for not recognising the so-called state of Kosovo. "We are extremely grateful to you for your principled stance on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, which is the issue above all issues," Braunovic stressed. He pointed out that the preservation of stability in the region is of key interest to the Republic of Serbia, expressing satisfaction with the project and the construction of the Balkan Stream gas pipeline. He went on to speak of the agreement between the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the extension of uninterrupted gas supplies to Serbia for the next three years, stating that this agreement is of exceptional importance for the citizens of Serbia, who come first for the ruling majority. He added that the number of members of the PFG with Russia, 91 in the current legislature, testifies to the brotherhood of the two countries.

Olga Timofeeva, the head of the Russian delegation, expressed satisfaction with the meeting with the Parliamentary Friendship Group, agreeing that bilateral relations are at an extremely high level and stressing that the mutual respect and gratitude that the two countries have for each other are also visible in the historically fraternal relations.

The officials also discussed the additional development of economic cooperation and agreed that bilateral ties are at a historic high. They agreed that they will continue to advocate for additional development of economic cooperation, as well as existing and future Russian investments in Serbia.

The meeting was attended by MPs Snezana Paunovic, Draginja Vlk, Zagorka Aleksic, Dubravka Kralj, Ivan Kostic and Bosko Obradovic, who took the opportunity to discuss parliamentary cooperation and future meetings with their colleagues.
