Diaspora and Serbs in the Region Committee Chairman Dragan Stanojevic Visits Serbian Community in Vienna

At the invitation of the Austrian-Serbian Cultural Society “Wilhelmina Mina Karadzic”, the Chairman of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, Dragan Stanojevic, visited Vienna on 6 to 8 March 2026.


This was his first visit to the Austrian capital and meeting with representatives of the Serbian community.

On Friday, 6 March, Stanojevic was received by Ilija Tufegdzic, Serbian MP in the Austrian Parliament and member of the Vienna City Council representing the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), at the Vienna Rathaus (City Hall).

The meeting was attended by Konstantin Dobrilovic, long-time political activist and candidate for a seat in the European Parliament, and Prof. Svetlana Matic. In a friendly conversation, the officials exchanged views on the current political situation in the world, the position of the Serbian minority in Austria, and the participation of Serbs in the political life of Austria. Stanojevic thanked the Freedom Party of Austria for understanding the needs of the Serbian people who have lived in this region for five centuries, and invited the Austrian MPs to visit the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region in Belgrade.

On the same day, Stanojevic met with representatives of the Management Board of the Association of Serbian Clubs in Vienna, which has been the umbrella organisation of eleven Serbian clubs and associations in the Alpine capital for fifty years.

He spoke about cultural events, activities and open issues with Radmila Maksimovic, president of the Association of Serbian Clubs and the Cultural-Artistic Association "Branko Radicevic", Borisav Kapetanovic, choreographer, Prof. Svetlana Matic, president of the Austrian-Serbian Cultural Society “Wilhelmina Mina Karadzic, Sinisa Maksimovic and Goran Djurdjevic, deputy president of the Association and president of the Cultural-Artistic Association "Borislav Bora Stankovic".

On Saturday, 7 March 2026, Dragan Stanojevic officially opened the event marking the 170th anniversary of the birth of Nikola Tesla, organized by the Austrian-Serbian Cultural Society “Wilhelmina Mina Karadzic. The event is part of the central celebration that began with the Solemn Academy in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia on 26 February 2026. Addressing the representatives of the diplomatic corps, businessmen and cultural workers present, Stanojevic stressed:

"The doors of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region are open to any and all constructive proposals from our people from the millionth Serbian dispersal. You are welcome to the highest home of the Serbian people."

He also recalled that the initiative to declare 2026 the Year of Tesla and Tesla’s People originated at the Committee’s session. He thanked Prof. Svetlana Matic for the invitation and wished the Austrian-Serbian Cultural Society “Wilhelmina Mina Karadzic” to continue with its successful operation.
