National Assembly Standing Delegation at 54th PABSEC General Assembly

The National Assembly standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), headed by MA Igor Becic and comprising Milija Miletic, Aleksandra Belacic and Ivan Kostic, took part in the 54th Plenary Session of the PABSEC General Assembly in Sofia, Bulgaria, 19 - 21 November 2019.


In addition to the Republic of Serbia, parliamentary delegations of Armenia, Albania, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, the Russian Federation, Turkey and Ukraine also took part in the plenary.

As Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation in charge of financial affairs, the head of the National Assembly standing delegation to PABSEC MA Igor Becic chaired the Parliamentary Assembly and the part of the session where the representatives of parliamentary assemblies and international organizations addressed the plenary.

The topic of the General Debate was “European Dimensions of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation – Current State and Prospects for EU – BSEC Cooperation”. Speaking on it, standing delegation member Milija Miletic said that the Republic of Serbia and its President Mr. Aleksandar Vucic are deeply committed to economic and social reform. European integration is one of the country’s foreign policy priorities, he said. Miletic urged for comprehensive and sustainable economic growth in the region, job creation and fostering closer economic and tourist ties the region. He opined that the Belgrade-Sofia highway would contribute to the economic connectivity between the countries.

In the course of the 54th session of the General Assembly the standing delegation endorsed the Parliamentary Assembly’s recommendations and reports on “Conclusion of Preferential Trade Agreements with a view to Eliminate Double Taxation between the BSEC Member States”, “Legal and Political Aspects of the Development of Transport Routes in the BSEC Region” and “Unemployment in the BSEC Member States. The Role of the State in Facilitating Job Creation”.

Speaking on the topic of unemployment, standing delegation member Aleksandra Belacic urged the PABSEC members to invest more into Serbia, especially in view of its skilled and capable workforce and similarities in culture and system of values between the PABSEC member states.

In the course of the session in Sofia the delegation also had a series of bilateral meetings.
