National Assembly Standing Delegation Takes Part in PACE Session in Strasbourg

The standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is taking part in part one of the PACE Session held in Strasbourg, Republic of France, 23 to 27 January 2023.


At the beginning of the session, the Assembly re-elected Tiny Koch (Holland, UEL) PACE President, and NARS delegation member Elvira Kovacs was among the elected PACE vice-presidents. The Assembly decided to hold discussions on the current issue of "Recent tensions between Pristina and Belgrade" and "Addressing the humanitarian consequences of the blockade of the Latchin corridor" on Wednesday, 25 January 2023.

An urgent discussion on the legal and human rights aspects of the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine, with the participation of Oleksandra Matviichuk, Head of the Center for Civil Liberties, 2022 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, will be among the most important events of the Winter Plenary Session.

Combating violence against women will also be a focus of the session, as well as the role and responsibility of men and boys in stopping gender-based violence against women and girls and finding a solution to marital captivity. Other topics on the agenda include the environmental impact of armed conflict, Daesh foreign fighters and their families returning from Syria and elsewhere, and the ethical, cultural and educational challenges of contact tracing applications.

Prime Minister of Iceland Katrin Jakobsdóttir and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will address the MPs.

Biljana Pantic Pilja, Head of the NARS delegation, and delegation members Elvira Kovacs, Dubravka Filipovski, Dunja Simonovic Bratic, Stefan Jovanovic, Aleksandar Markovic and Jelena Milosevic are taking part in the PACE Session.
