National Assembly Speaker Meets with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Balkans

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic met today with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Balkans Alexander Sasha Kasanof.

Speaker Brnabic expressed her satisfaction with the dynamics of the political dialogue and emphasised the importance of further improving cooperation with the United States of America. She emphasised the importance of organising mutual visits of the highest dignitaries in order to strengthen bilateral relations and confirmed Serbia's commitment to preserving peace and stability in the region.

The officials discussed joint projects, especially in the energy sector. The signed Agreement on strategic cooperation in the field of energy will contribute to energy security and sustainable development, enabling new initiatives and investments in the future. They also discussed the possibility of establishing a Strategic Dialogue between Serbia and the US, as well as the importance of deepening parliamentary cooperation with the US Congress.

Special attention was paid to the implementation of the recommendations of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) in order to improve electoral process and strengthen democracy in Serbia. Brnabic pointed out that she fully understands the importance of continued work and close cooperation with ODIHR in order to achieve the common goal, which is an even better, more transparent and more efficient election process in the Republic of Serbia.

She further underlined that reforms remain Serbia's key priority, with a special focus on the rule of law, which is essential for the country's European path. Serbia's membership in the European Union remains a strategic commitment and one of the most important foreign policy goals.

Both sides confirmed their commitment to continuing cooperation at a high level, with the intensification of joint efforts to strengthen the political and economic partnership, which will contribute to the long-term development of relations between Serbia and the United States.
