National Assembly Deputy Speaker Sandra Bozic at Opening of Children’s Exhibition: Bridge of Understanding – Intergenerational Solidarity

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Sandra Bozic spoke at the opening of the children’s exhibition on the topic: Bridge of Understanding – Intergenerational Solidarity, marking International Day of Older Persons.

“Intergenerational solidarity means mutual support, cooperation and creation of a society where everybody has a role to play and the opportunity to contribute regardless of age”, stressed Sandra Bozic. She opined that, through their works, the children have showed that age should not be an obstacle to a dignified and good life, and given a strong and significant support to the fight against discrimination against the elderly in our society.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker said that age discrimination can be eliminated by raising social awareness on it and the most important step on the way to get there is improving the financial position of pensioners.

She stressed that, in the last 10 years, with the clear policy of President Aleksandar Vucic, Serbia has shown special care for its oldest citizens. It was a way to express gratitude for the understanding and solidarity they had showed by always standing by their country in the previous, by no means easy period, said Bozic.

Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic and Head of Office at the United Nations Population Fund in Serbia Borka Jeremic also spoke at the opening of the children’s exhibition, organised by the Commissioner for Protection of Equality with the support of the National Assembly.

On the occasion, the organisers awarded the best literary work, artwork and photograph.
