Deputy Speaker Orlic briefed the European Union-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee on the results of stage one of the inter-party dialogue facilitated by the European Parliament, successful realization of all the measures employed to improve the electoral conditions and plans for stage two. The participants were also informed about the role of the parliament in the oversight of the emergency measures instated by the Government during the state of emergency declared due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the work plan and priorities of the newly-constituted parliament. One of the primary goals of this legislature of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is to affirm the achieved high standards of good parliamentary practice and improve them further. These standards include public hearings, doubling the debate time for laws of special importance such as the budget law, keeping the percentage of laws passed by urgent procedure lower than the European average and regular reviews of the reports of independent regulatory bodies.

Focusing on the parliament’s inclusion in Serbia’s EU accession process, Deputy Speaker Orlic thanked the European partners for their support, the recognitions for the success in the field of economy and in combating the pandemic, and urged to step-up cooperation and bring Serbia closer to its goal – full EU membership.
