Member of the standing delegation of the of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Tijana Davidovac took part in the 9th annual meeting of the South Eastern European Dialogue on Internet Governance (SEEDIG).

The PAM Session on AI and New Technologies: Prevention of abuse and improvement of regulation, focused on the urgent need for stronger regulatory frameworks for AI and new technologies both nationally and internationally. With increasing risks of misuse by criminal and terrorist groups, the participants discussed strategies for adopting effective regulation to increase security and mitigate threats related to these advanced technologies.

The member of the standing delegation of the of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Tijana Davidovac pointed out that during 2024, PAM experts devoted a large part of their work to the collection, monitoring and analysis of national and international regulations on AI and new technologies, as well as their misuse by terrorist and criminal organisations, in line with, and in addition to, UN and international efforts. If not regulated in a timely and effective manner, the rapid evolution of AI and new technologies will certainly have the potential to cause significant damage to democratic systems and processes, thus negatively affecting the structure of our societies and posing a major risk to security and stability.

She also pointed out that malicious cyber activity and attacks increased in 2024 due to the rapid development and low cost of relevant technologies, which made attacks more advanced and faster to use.
