Matviyenko Sends Letter to Dacic on Passing of His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia

Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, sent a letter of condolences to the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic on the death of His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, stressing that the Patriarch's departure is an irreparable loss for all.

“On behalf of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and on my own behalf, please accept our sincerest condolences on the passing of His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia.

The departure of Serbian Patriarch Irinej is an irreparable loss for all of us. His selfless service to God, the fatherland and his people has earned His Holiness warranted respect and recognition not only in Serbia, but in the entire Orthodox world.

I remember talking to His Holiness in the spring of 2015 during my official visit to the City of Belgrade. One cannot overstate his benevolent efforts and consistent steps aimed at strengthening the centuries-old cultural and spiritual ties between the people of Russia and Serbia.

Please convey our sincere sympathy and support to all the clergy and congregation of the Serbian Orthodox Church."
