MPs Meet with Australian Ambassador to Serbia

The members of the Commission Monitoring the Execution of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, representatives of the Women’s Parliamentary Network and the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Australia met today, at the National Assembly House with the Australian Ambassador to Serbia, Helena Gay Studdert.


The meeting mainly focused on the execution of the National Action Plan for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 in Australia and Serbia, women’s rights and inclusion into all social segments, as well as the status and rights of women refugees.
The Chairperson of the Commission Monitoring the Execution of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, Zlata Djeric welcomed the Ambassador, saying that she hopes cooperation with Australia would continue in the future, as well as the support in the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325
Biljana Hasanovic Korac, coordinator of the Women’s Parliamentary Network, said that the Network’s primary goal is to promote gender equality, participation of women in public life and boost their economic independence. She added that UNSC Resolution 1325 is an area of particular interest for the Women’s Parliamentary Network.
The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Australia, Bojana Djordjevic was very pleased by the Australian Ambassador’s visit and proceeded to ask about Australia’s experience as regards addressing violence against women.
Australian Ambassador to Serbia, Helena Gay Studdert, spoke about UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and Australia’s National Action Plan Women, Peace and Security (2012-2018). Sharing Australia’s experience in the implementation of the National Action Plan, she highlighted the important role of the non-governmental sector and the need to focus on women’s rights. The Australian Ambassador applauded the establishment of the Women’s Parliamentary Network at the National Assembly, opining that a women’s organisation of this kind is an excellent initiative.
