National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jovan Janjic, met today, in the National Assembly House, with the Member of Parliament of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Antoinette N’Samba.
Janjic spoke of the deep friendship between the two countries, dating back to 1961, and thanked the Congo for its consistent support for the territorial sovereignty and integrity of the Republic of Serbia. He stressed that the Serbian people sympathise with the Congolese people in their struggle to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their country, emphasising that the Congo can always count on Serbia's support in international institutions.
He recalled that Serbia experienced moral and propaganda aggression two years ago from the very country that today threatens the integrity of the Congo, through the unfounded proposal of a Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica in the United Nations General Assembly, which politically judged and condemned Serbia for the civil war in the neighbouring country and its consequences.
The Member of Parliament of the Democratic Republic of Congo Antoinette N’Samba expressed great readiness for cooperation, as well as for any engagement and initiative that would contribute to the strengthening of interparliamentary relations. She recalled the importance of the recent official visit of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo to Serbia, during which four bilateral agreements were signed, and proposed that the two parliaments establish a friendship group to monitor their implementation.
The officials agreed that such a parliamentary body would significantly contribute to the comprehensive improvement of parliamentary cooperation and the further strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries. During the meeting, they discussed cooperation in the fields of environmental protection, education, medicine and political strengthening of ties. The MPs also exchanged invitations to intensify parliamentary visits in order to exchange experiences and good practices.
The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Miroljub Jevtic.
