Elvira Kovacs Elected PACE Monitoring Committee Chairperson

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and member of the standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Elvira Kovacs, was elected Chairperson of the prestigious Committee on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe, or the Monitoring Committee, for one year mandate, with the possibility of re-election for another year.

It is one of the nine standing committees of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The Monitoring Committee if responsible for verifying the fulfilment of obligations assumed by member states under the terms of the Statute of the Council of Europe, the European Convention on Human Rights and all other Council of Europe Conventions to which they are parties, as well as honouring of commitments entered into by the authorities of member states upon accession to the Council of Europe.

Unlike other committees, membership in this Committee is delegated by political groups, it has 85 members, which is the largest number compared to other committees, and its sessions are confidential and closed to the public. At the current session, the Parliamentary Assembly is considering reports prepared by this Committee concerning the fulfilment of obligations arising from the membership by Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia.
